About the Artist, Rajpal Singh
Rajpal is a UK based artist and illustrator. Currently freelancing in both illustration and concept art, his main objective is striving to create well-researched, thoughtful work.
With his illustrations, Rajpal puts sole focus into storytelling in visual marvels; With a deep understanding in composition and themes, he pursues messages and values that align with his faith as a Sikh: Discipline, integrity, and mental toughness.
To provide and serve is one of Sikhi’s defining traits, and Rajpal’s aim is to shape a new generation with ideals and values of growth and success, in physical, mental, and spiritual forms.
Aside from Sikh arts, Rajpal is an advocate for the teachings of psychology and philosophy, working diligently in understanding himself spiritually through challenging himself physically and mentally with sports like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, of which Rajpal is an advocate for.
Rajpal believes in life experience and the necessity in getting out of the comfort zone to develop a truly compassionate soul. As much as possible does Rajpal strive to reflect such values in his work.
An effort to preserve Puratan history
Through his extensive research, Rajpal Singh Ubhi has discovered a fascinating collection of commissioned portraits depicting some of the Sikh Gurus. One particular portrait that caught his attention was that of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, which was meticulously created during the Guru's physical existence. This discovery ignited a deep curiosity within Rajpal, and upon further exploration, he realized that these original portraits were rarely represented in modern media and culture.
Determined to preserve the authenticity and historical significance of these original portraits, Rajpal embarked on a mission to recreate them with utmost accuracy. Drawing inspiration from the clothing, armaments, and locations depicted in the originals, he meticulously crafts his artwork to provide a truly authentic glimpse into the rich heritage of Sikhi and its roots.
By shedding light on these historically significant portraits, Rajpal strives to foster a renewed understanding and appreciation for Sikh history and culture. Bringing concepts to reality
Rajpal creates his works by hand digitally on a pen-tablet connected externally or his desktop pc. Using software such as photoshop and Procreate predominantly, Rajpal‘s process lies unique with an emphasis on designing images with meaningful compositions, colour, lighting, and form - All with an astute attention to fine detailing and expressionism where possible. Not too distant from painting traditionally, textures and digital brushes play a significant role in the completion of a piece. The main factors to determine a piece as complete to Rajpal include but are not limited to: Emotional depth and success in visually expressing a meaningful story and message.
